How To Keep Your Home Protected From Hurricanes

If you live in a part of the country that gets a lot of hurricanes, then you may be scared about the upcoming hurricane season. Hurricanes can leave a lot of damage to your house and just about everything else in their way. Get Storm Shutters

If you don't want to pay for storm windows, then consider getting storm shutters instead. Storm shutters are designed to protect your windows during a storm so that they don't shatter or get damaged. The great thing about storm shutters is that they come in a variety of styles (a lot of which are also decorative) so that you can keep them up all year long. Typically, storm shutters are wooden, but they can also come in metal as well. 

Cut Back your Trees

If you have a lot of big trees that are close to your house, you may be asking for it during a storm. Why? Because trees are one of the first things that tend to get blown over during a big storm and they can fall on your house. If you have never had a significantly large tree fall on your roof, then you certainly don't want to risk it now because it can cause a lot of really expensive and extensive damage. Make sure that you have your trees consistently pruned back so that they don't have any big branches hanging too close to your house. 

Hurricane Roof Straps or Clips

Roofs are one of the first things to get damaged during a hurricane because the shingles tend to blow off. To prepare, you can get some hurricane straps or clips for your roof. These clips are designed to keep your roof in place so that it doesn't blow over during a big storm. 

You can never be too prepared for a hurricane, especially if you are a homeowner. In addition to doing these things, make sure that you have an emergency plan in place, enough water stored somewhere, and some extra food storage just in case stores close down.
